Tenerife Airport Disaster

This is the incident that took place in the Los Rodeos Airport, currently known as the Tenerife North Airport on the Spanish Island of Tenerife, Canary Island. The incident involved the colliding of the two Boeing 747 passenger jets, KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am Flight 1736 on runway on March 27 1977.

The collision occurred when the KLM airliner started its takeoff run while the Pan Am airliner, covered in fog, was still on the runway and about to turn off onto the taxiway. The impact and resulting fire killed everyone on board KLM 4805 and most of the occupants of Pan Am 1736, with only 61 survivors in the front section of the aircraft.

The incident resulted in the death of 583 people, making it the deadliest accident in the aviation history.
